If you look at the pregame stats from the Chilli Bowl and the Mi-America Classic, you would probably draw a conclusion favoring Normal West Wildcats and Eastern Illinois Panthers. Normal Community and Normal West had met the same two opponent the first two weeks of the season. Normal Community lost to both leaving them at 0-2. West had beaten both of those teams for a 2-0 record. Well, all bets are off when any intercity teams are playing each other. Add in a pinch of weather for good measure and home field advantage and it took on a completely different look and result with the Ironmen topping and even dominating West.
#24 ranked Eastern Illinois came to Hancock Stadium to topple unranked Illinois State. Home field advantage on this older than old rivalry and Family Day activities and that 15 mph breeze probably didn't hurt or help and it was an upset. ISU left 2-0 for the season, Eastern went south without the trophy and probably a lower ranking for next week.
Alan Look Photography was there. Galleries are below and there will be more coverage in the Normalite Newspapers and in Best Look Magazine. Return to Alan Look Photography every week for more of the Best Look in Sports Action Photography in Bloomington Normal and McLean County.
Ottawa, Illinois — August 22, 2025 SkyDive Chicago made history today with a stunning display of aerial coordination and global teamwork, successfully breaking two world records in a single day over the skies of Ottawa, Illinois. The event brought together more than 450 elite skydivers from around the world, each contributing to two massive formations that pushed the boundaries of human flight. The first record was a 200-way vertical head-down formation, now the largest of its kind ever completed. The second was a 250-way belly-to-earth formation, setting a new benchmark for traditional skydiving and becoming the largest ever performed on U.S. soil. Jumpers exited nine aircraft flying in tight formation at 19,000 feet, locking into precise configurations within seconds of freefall. The formations were verified by aerial judges and documented by a team of photographers and videographers, capturing a moment that will resonate across the global skydiving community. SkyDive C...
Bloomington, Ill. – The 2025 Intercity Boys Basketball Tournament tipped off Monday night at Illinois Wesleyan University’s Shirk Center, delivering a mix of blowout dominance and down-to-the-wire intensity. The double-header featured cross-town rivals facing off in the annual Thanksgiving week tradition, with the Normal Community Ironmen and University High Pioneers securing victories to open the tournament. Ironmen Roll Past Wildcats In the evening’s first matchup, the Normal Community Ironmen made a resounding statement with a 67-39 victory over the Normal West Wildcats. The Ironmen controlled the tempo from the opening tip, utilizing a stifling defense to disrupt the Wildcats' offensive rhythm. Normal Community’s balanced attack proved too much for West to handle. The Ironmen offense executed with efficiency, steadily building a lead that ballooned to 28 points by the final buzzer. The victory extended Normal Community’s recent dominance in the rivalry, marking a...
The Illinois men’s basketball program is facing an early setback this offseason with the news that veteran guard-forward Ty Rodgers will be out indefinitely due to a knee injury sustained during a workout session. The injury, which requires surgery, is expected to keep him sidelined for a significant portion of the upcoming season, if not all of it. Rodgers’ absence goes far beyond stats. A staple of the Illini rotation, he has been a consistent and hardworking presence on the court since his freshman year. In his second season, Rodgers started every game, bringing a gritty, physical edge to the team. He averaged over six points, grabbed more than five rebounds per game, and added a couple of assists each night. What made Rodgers so valuable was his ability to contribute in ways that didn’t always show up in the box score—defensive intensity, second-chance rebounds, and his commitment to doing the little things right. Known for his high motor and toughness, Rodgers had developed ...
