Yes, this Saturday January 19th, the first rounds of the 2013 McLean County Tournament will be played at the gyms of Ridgeview in Colfax.  You can find the brackets on the McLean County Tournament page of Alan Look Photography .   Alan will be in and out hitting several of the games through out the week.  Check the website , the Normalite , and Best Look Magazines next issue for coverage and some great photos of the McLean County Tournament . This will be the 102nd McLean County Tournament.

Cornell Freeney has performed in several circus troupes.  Locally he is part of the Illinois State University Gamma Phi Circus.  The Circus performs in mid-April, but a couple of times a year if you attend ISU sporting events you can get a sneak peek.  Usually during a football game, they get a small group together to "kick" a field goal with a human being.  It's not as punishing as it sounds, they use a swinging platform to propel a young man over the horizontal bar of the goal post.  He lands on a very think mat on the other side.  It's pretty fun to watch, but we always wish the Redbirds would get extra points for it.  The official scorer never sees it that way. During basketball season, there is usually a halftime show around an act from the circus.  The last couple of years, it has been the German Wheel.  A wheel that must be 7 or 8 feet across and a couple of feet think, it is two rims with some cross members and some places to anchor...

Illinois State led Drake at the half but couldn't hold on as they lost to Drake by a score of 82-77 on Saturday January 12th.  The Redbirds led most of the first half, but fell by as much as 15 in the second half.  The loss became apparent at about the 1 minute mark with the 'birds still down by a dozen.  A rally in the last minute cut the difference to 5.  The Redbirds moved to almost a 50-50 season overall and a 0-5 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference... a team expected in the pre-season polls to be 2nd in the conference behind the Creighton Bluejays. I've posted the 2013 McLean County Tournament Brackets .  The boys brackets are yet to be set, but I should get them posted this weekend.  The first rounds are all at Ridgeview in Colfax.  Most of the girls play after that will be at Lexington, however some are at Ridgeview and the Semi's and Finals will be at Shirk. Alan Look Photography and possibly John Power Photography will be covering for Best Look Magazine .  Alan will also provide coverage for the Normalite .  We hope to see you there. Citing "conduct detrimental to the team", Coach Dan Muller indefinitely suspended from the Illinois State Redbirds basketball team today.  This according to local mainstream media outlets.  A check of Illinois State's GoRedbirds website made no mention of this news. Basketball season is well underway and the conference races have started.   Illinois State Redbirds tagged as the most likely #2 before the season have fallen to 0-3 in the first part of conference play.
