Two Redbirds hit single game individual records last night scoring more points in a game than they had before. Bobby Hunter put away 19 points and Nick Zeisloft hit the 15 mark as the Redbirds defeated the Bulldogs of Drake University by a score of 75-57. Drake began substituting players with little time to their credit with over 3 minutes left in the game. Fan favorite, Matt Stacho - a walk on for Illinois State made an appearance with 2:30 left. The Redbirds move to a MVC record of 5-5, Drake drops to 3-7.
In their 1st conference game this season, the Illinois State Redbird women secured their 2nd win of the year giving them a 2-9 overall and 1-0 Missouri Valley Conference record. The first half was highlighted by several 3 point nothing but net shots by Alexis Foley. Foley led the Redbirds with 20 points in 33 minutes of play, followed by Octavia Crump with 17 points. Drake's Kyndal Clark was the best in the game with 23 points in 34 minute of court time. Final score was 80-71
Illinois State led Drake at the half but couldn't hold on as they lost to Drake by a score of 82-77 on Saturday January 12th. The Redbirds led most of the first half, but fell by as much as 15 in the second half. The loss became apparent at about the 1 minute mark with the 'birds still down by a dozen. A rally in the last minute cut the difference to 5. The Redbirds moved to almost a 50-50 season overall and a 0-5 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference... a team expected in the pre-season polls to be 2nd in the conference behind the Creighton Bluejays.
On Friday Night, it was to Colfax for Ridgeview Mustangs hosting the Tri Valley Vikings for homecoming.
