The University Pioneers and the Bloomington Central Catholic Saints have been city rivals for years.  On Friday night lightning forced both sides to go home with not even a light on the scoreboard being lit.  The came back on Saturday with the Pioneers putting 18 points on the board in the first half.  Central Catholic was the only scorers the 2nd half, but only managed 13.  UHS 18, CCHS 13. Later on Saturday, the Redbirds of Illinois State welcomed a new non-confernce opponent in the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State.  The Redbirds were not going to lose their first home game, but no one expected a shut out 62-0.  Tre Roberson won out over veteran Blake Winkler for the Quarterback start. Seems like most years the basketball season in Bloomington Normal for me starts with the Intercity Tournament.  This year it was a little bit different.  The ISU Men got my attention first, then the IWU Men.  Intercity Girls were third and then the Intercity Boys.  ISU and IWU Women have thus far eluded my schedule even though both have had home games.  Some weekends just don't seem to have enough days!  I'm sure everyone feels that. ISU had one in town Exhibition game at Redbird against Quincy.  It was a good opening.  The first IWU game I arrived at was against Aurora.  I believe I've seen all the intercity teams ( Bloomington Raiders, Normal Ironmen, Normal West Wildcats, UHigh Pioneers and Central Catholic Saints) for both genders.  I also got to cover a Bloomington Thunder ice hockey game against the Southern Professional Hockey League leaders, the Louisiana Ice Gators. Several coverages this past weekend for the Normalite Newspaper group, Best Look Magazine and Alan Look Photography . On Friday Night, it was to Colfax for Ridgeview Mustangs hosting the Tri Valley Vikings for homecoming.  I'll apologize in advance, I have about 100 more images for this gallery if the computer shop can recover them from my crashed Mac.  Right now, chances look good.  Those 100 images contain all of the shots of the band. On Saturday it was football at Illinois State with the Redbirds hosting Youngstown State Penguins and then in the evening the Volleyball Redbirds took on the Drake Bulldogs .  Click on any of the links for photos and news links. The night didn't disappoint.  Everything that makes a Chili Bowl exciting.  Stormy weather, The Wildcats and the Ironmen, lots of fans and an oblong ball that takes funny bounces.  Yes, they were all there tonight.  The Wildcats took the Ironmen at home and will get to place the Chili Bowl in their trophy case till next year.  I don't have a lot of stats or side notes.  I haven't a clue how many yards Edwards ran for the Iron or what happened to Jefferson just before the half.  I do know the Cats returned to the field after the break and Alex didn't show up till later on the back of the squad cart under a blanket - padless.  It did appear to be an injury to his leg.  I'm sure there will be more known tomorrow. Most Friday nights you can find me at a high school football game.  no exception on the 14th.  Coverage this night was Homecoming at Normal Community West High School against conference foes Danville Vikings.  It was come from behind, get way ahead, let them almost catch up, then win for the Wildcats. Images on Alan Look Photography Website Friend, fellow photographer and Best Look Magazine contributor John Power was reportedly at the El Paso - Gridley Titans v Fieldcrest Falcons game and part of the night at Eureka for the game against the Central Catholic Saints.  Not sure if he made it to both of them.  Check his website for images from those games.

The intercity games were played on Friday night.  As most know, they were moved to NCHS and CCHS this year due to the renovation work that has begun on Hancock Stadium at Illinois State University.   Best Look Magazine covered the 1st have of each game.  We had to cut it short because of the uninvited but welcomed rain from the remnants of Hurricane Isaac.   John Power Photography covered the University High Pioneers and the Central Catholic Saints.   Alan Look Photography covered the Bloomington High School Purple Raiders and the Normal Community Ironmen.  Images will be available on each photographers website.  If you don't see them, check back later. Friday night the action at Hancock began at 4pm with intercity foes Uhigh and Bloomington Central Catholic at odds on the gridiron. The Saints of CCHS came out on top at the end of the 4 quarters 33-7. The defense of the Pioneers of UHS looked good getting a number of sacks, stops and blocked passes but they just couldn't outlast the toughness of the Saints. Then it was on to the half of Intercity played under the lights, the Normal Community Ironmen matching up with the Raiders of Bloomington High. The Iron heated up and struck first high stepping into the north endzone and following up with a PAT. In the 2nd half, the Raiders botched a field goal attempt by not getting the ball down. THe handler picked it up and the Raider scored a TD instead. The score at the end was 21-14. Between games the athletic directors awarded a participation plaque to Sandy Adams of YouNameItSports.
