In McLean County Illinois, the granddaddy of local basketball tournaments has been held for 103 times in 104 years. It's changed a lot over the years as school districts grew larger or small and many consolidated. The current day tournament is a coed tournament including boys and girls brackets. The schools filling those brackets are from the county or from the Heart of Illinois Conference (HOIC). County proper teams have dwindled over the years as consolidation erupted. Schools that currently have a McLean County presence are Heyworth, LeRoy, Ridgeview, Lexington, El Paso - Gridley, and Tri Valley. The only non-Bloomington-Normal school I can think of that has students from the county but isn't included in the tournament is Olympia.
This year, the Ridgeview Mustangs entered the tournament undefeated and with Coach Rodney Kellar looking for his 500th win. He got that win as Ridgeview defeated El Paso Gridley in the semi-final. Ridgeview stood up against the Blue Ridge Knights in the final. The game was an epic battle that tied at 49 in regulation. The Knights managed a score with 6 seconds left in OT that went unanswered leaving them ahead by one point as the buzzer sounded.
In the girls brackets, El Paso - Gridley's Lady Titans took home the 1st place brass for the 4th straight year. Watching Codee Schlipf, The Ehresman girls and the rest of the team is a real treat. It wasn't all roses during the championship game for the girls. They faced off against HOIC foe - Tremont Turks. It was a back and forth battle with both sides sharing lead changes.

Ottawa, Illinois — August 22, 2025 SkyDive Chicago made history today with a stunning display of aerial coordination and global teamwork, successfully breaking two world records in a single day over the skies of Ottawa, Illinois. The event brought together more than 450 elite skydivers from around the world, each contributing to two massive formations that pushed the boundaries of human flight. The first record was a 200-way vertical head-down formation, now the largest of its kind ever completed. The second was a 250-way belly-to-earth formation, setting a new benchmark for traditional skydiving and becoming the largest ever performed on U.S. soil. Jumpers exited nine aircraft flying in tight formation at 19,000 feet, locking into precise configurations within seconds of freefall. The formations were verified by aerial judges and documented by a team of photographers and videographers, capturing a moment that will resonate across the global skydiving community. SkyDive C...
The Illinois men’s basketball program is facing an early setback this offseason with the news that veteran guard-forward Ty Rodgers will be out indefinitely due to a knee injury sustained during a workout session. The injury, which requires surgery, is expected to keep him sidelined for a significant portion of the upcoming season, if not all of it. Rodgers’ absence goes far beyond stats. A staple of the Illini rotation, he has been a consistent and hardworking presence on the court since his freshman year. In his second season, Rodgers started every game, bringing a gritty, physical edge to the team. He averaged over six points, grabbed more than five rebounds per game, and added a couple of assists each night. What made Rodgers so valuable was his ability to contribute in ways that didn’t always show up in the box score—defensive intensity, second-chance rebounds, and his commitment to doing the little things right. Known for his high motor and toughness, Rodgers had developed ...
CHAMPAIGN, Ill.– History was made for Fighting Illini Basketball on Wednesday night, as freshmen Kasparas Jakucionis (Vilnius, Lithuania) and Will Riley (Kitchener, Ontario, Canada) became the first-ever one-and-done players for the Illinois program. The Illini stars were selected back-to-back in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft, with Jakucionis taken at No. 20 overall by the Miami Heat and Riley going to the Washington Wizards the very next pick at No. 21 as part of a trade with Utah. Illinois stands as one of just three programs with multiple first-round picks in this year's draft, along with Duke (3) and Rutgers (2). This marks the first time in 20 years, and just the third time in school history, that Illinois has had two first-round picks in the same draft, joining 1989 (Nick Anderson and Kenny Battle) and 2005 (Deron Wiliams and Luther Head). Illinois has now had four players selected in the NBA Draft du...
